Guidelines
Here are a few pointers before you ask for an assessment:
1.
Be specific
, the more details we have, the more precise we can assess the possibilities of research and the cost
2. Do not hold information for later, whether you have a lot of information or very little, keeping it to yourself is counterproductive. We might quote you for something you already have found or worse, tell you the research is not feasible at this point in time because we are short of leads. Family stories are leads as much as documents, do not omit to give
concise
details which may have been passed down casually or indirectly.
3. If you are looking for a lot of information, give us your starting point, and we will always quote in stages.
4. Do not ask for an assessment if you only think your ancestor is from Ireland, France or Belgium. You need on your end a document to show where they came from
5. Don't forget to give us the name and dates of at least one person in the query
6.
Ireland:
we rarely carry out research pre-1800 in Ireland except where the chances are that sources may be available, most catholic parish records generally starts in 1820s or later (many city parishes start in the late 1790s), land records in 1830s, civil records in 1864, reformed church records sometimes start earlier.
7.
House History
: we have a wide range of services for people looking into the history of a house. From historical background research to non invasive archaeological survey. Please provide details on location of the house. Onsite surveys will be charged depending on location to factor in any travelling.
8.
Historical research
: if you intend to carry out research for publication or as a matter of interest, just give us the period and location and we will contact you with specific questions.
